Comment

  • Museum's website (accessed March 4, 2019):
This sculpture, which can be positioned in more than one way for display, is exemplary of Arp’s distinctive formal repertoire, with its fluid biomorphic forms. It takes its inspiration from the static and majestic Lions of Delos, the seventh century B.C. marble sculptures of lions from the island of Delos in the Greek Cyclades. Arp’s playful approach underscores the sense of organic movement of the sculpture.
