Comment

  • Museum's website, August 29, 2012:
Laurens was a friend of the painters Picasso and Braque. Although he made this sculpture several years after their most innovative Cubist work, it nevertheless displays the same vitality and ingenuity. Laurens adopted the Cubists’ subject matter (figures, still lifes, and musical instruments) and skillfully translated their planar analysis of volume into the idiom of three-dimensional sculpture.
