After winning the Prix de Rome in 1765, Julien studied at the Académie de France in Rome and executed numerous drawings and sculptures based on models from antiquity. The original, an antique Roman marble now in the Louvre, was installed at Versailles by Louis XIV, and was at the time one of the most famous classical antiquities in France.
