Painter and modeller. Head of modellers at the Vincennes Manufactory (1750), then Artistic director. When the manufactory is transferred to Sèvres, pursues his career of modeller at Sèvres until 1793. In 1765, he founds and funds a School of design for craftsmen, in Paris, rue de l'Ecole-de-Médecine; it is transformed into a Royal School in 1767, and is the ancestor to the current National Superior School of Decorative Arts (Ecole nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs).
